History:
It is often referred to as 'the most colorful mineral in the world' owing to its variety of brilliant colors. Fluorite was first described in 1530 and was originally referred to as 'fluorspar'. The mineral was strongly noted for its effectiveness as a flux for aluminum and steel processing. Fluorite comes in a variety of colors including shades of purple and lavender, clear and green banded as well as yellow, green, blue-green, white and rainbow. Its name comes from the Latin word "fleure" which means "to flux," which in turn means, "flowing out" or "continuous change."
Fluorite is aligned with the astrological signs of Pisces and Capricorn.
